# shortshort

> AI clip maker for long videos: turn a talk or podcast of up to 3 hours into 9:16 shorts that end on a full sentence, follow the face and caption every word.

shortshort is an AI clip maker, a web app that turns one long video, up to 3 hours and 2 GB, into vertical shorts cropped to 9:16, each aimed at a length you choose between 15 and 90 seconds and finishing within 25% of it: up to 3 per video on the Free plan and 20 on the Studio plan.
shortshort transcribes the video word by word and selects passages that form complete sentences, then checks each short's ending against the words, so a short runs up to 25% shorter or longer than its target rather than cutting a thought in half.
shortshort captions every word in one of four styles, Spotlight, Impact, Karaoke or Minimal, and exports each short as an MP4 at 1080 x 1920; scheduled publishing to YouTube and TikTok is in early access.

shortshort (shortshort.io) is a video tool that cuts long videos into vertical shorts; it is not related to Short.io, the link shortener.

The 9:16 crop is placed on the most visible face and moves with it, with automatic zooms between x1.0 and x1.6; slides, screens and wide shots are kept full-frame. It does not tell who is speaking, and there are no manual framing controls. With an account, generation and rendering run on our servers on every plan: once the upload finishes you can close the tab and come back to finished shorts.

- Shorts per video: 3 on the Free plan, 5 on Starter, 10 on Creator, 20 on the Studio plan
- The studio: The studio is the app every plan uses, the Free plan included; the Studio plan is the €79 a month tier, before VAT.
- Short length: Target of 15 to 90 seconds; each short lands within 25% of it, so about 11 to 112 seconds
- Sentences: Chosen to open and close on a sentence; each ending checked against the transcript
- Excerpts per short: Up to 8 from the same video: 3 at 15 s, 5 at 30 s
- Framing: Follows the face on screen, automatic zooms between x1.0 and x1.6, slides kept full-frame
- Output: MP4, 1080 x 1920, 9:16, 30 fps

- Zoom: On a tracked face the zoom stays at x1.0 or x1.04 for each shot, with brief push-ins up to about x1.22 on emphasized words; x1.6 is the ceiling, reached only on a passage that is not tracked.
- Price per minute: From about €0.013 per minute of source video on the Studio plan to €0.025 on Starter, billed monthly and before VAT, however many shorts you ask for; billed yearly, €0.011 to €0.02. Top-ups cost €0.017 to €0.023 per minute.

## Not included

- No dubbing and no translation: captions are in the language spoken in the video, never translated: each short's words are transcribed by OpenAI's whisper-1, which OpenAI says supports 98 languages, with accuracy that varies by language, so check the words before rendering.
- No automatic B-roll, music or on-screen titles: the short is your video, reframed and captioned.
- No publishing to Instagram, LinkedIn or X, and YouTube and TikTok publishing is in early access: today you download the MP4 and post it yourself.
- No other aspect ratio than 9:16, and no resolution above 1080 x 1920 at 30 fps.
- No import from TikTok, Instagram, Vimeo or Drive links: the source is a video you own, as a file in MP4, MOV or WebM, or as the link of your YouTube upload.
- No virality scores: the AI selects complete, quotable passages, and you decide what to keep.

## Data location

- Source videos, rendered shorts, posters, edit plans and account records: stored by Supabase in the European Union (eu-central-1, Frankfurt).
- Server generation and rendering (every signed-in account): a worker running in Europe. shortshort is operated from France.
- AI analysis: the video, frames, audio or transcript are sent to Google Gemini or OpenAI and processed on their infrastructure, outside that region; the Google file is deleted when the job finishes. Every generation of shorts includes this analysis; the editor retouches its proposals, and the analysis, the editor and the MP4 export need a free account.
