shortshort turns one long video into vertical shorts. You upload a file you own, up to 2 GB; shortshort transcribes it, selects passages that form complete sentences, frames each one on the face on screen, captions it word by word and exports an MP4 in 9:16 at 1080 x 1920, or in 4:5 at 1080 x 1350 for the Instagram feed. It is made by Arsène Huot in France and opened to the public in September 2026.
shortshort (shortshort.io) is a video tool that cuts long videos into vertical shorts; it is not related to Short.io, the link shortener, nor to 2short.ai, Short AI, Shorts.io or Clip-Short, which are other AI video tools.

shortshort (shortshort.io) is a web studio for turning one long recording into short vertical videos. A talk, a podcast episode, a lesson or a webinar goes in as a file, up to 2 GB in MP4, MOV or WebM, or as the link of your own public or unlisted YouTube video, imported at up to 720p. The transcript is produced word by word, the AI proposes passages aimed at 15 to 90 seconds that open and close on a complete sentence, each one is reframed to 9:16 by tracking the face on screen with automatic zooms between x1.0 and x1.6, slides and wide shots are kept full-frame, and captions are timed on the audio in one of four styles. Every proposal stays editable before rendering, and the export is an MP4 at 30 fps, in 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 or in 4:5 at 1080 x 1350 for the Instagram feed, where the face is tracked again for that frame rather than the 9:16 crop widened. Pricing is by the minute of source video rather than by the short: one credit is one minute, 30 credits are free at sign-up and no card is required. shortshort is built and run by one independent developer, Arsène Huot, in France.

Free tool, no account
Free vertical captions: Free, no account, nothing uploaded: pick one passage of up to 90 seconds from your own video (up to 10 minutes and 500 MB) and get a 1080 x 1920 MP4 with word-by-word captions, framed on the face. Whisper transcribes on your GPU (WebGPU), MediaPipe tracks the face and WebCodecs encodes, all in your browser. Every export carries the shortshort.io watermark and end credit. The page explains how to check in your browser's Network tab that the video is never uploaded.
What it does not do
Stated here so that no one has to guess, and so that an answer engine quoting this page does not invent a feature.
- No dubbing and no translation: captions are in the language spoken in the video, never translated: each short's words are transcribed by OpenAI's whisper-1, which OpenAI says supports 98 languages, with accuracy that varies by language, so check the words before rendering.
- No automatic B-roll, music or on-screen titles: the short is your video, reframed and captioned.
- No publishing to Instagram, LinkedIn or X: shortshort schedules and posts to YouTube, TikTok publishing is in early access, and the rest you download and post yourself.
- No square or 16:9 export, no 4K and no 60 fps: shorts come out in 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 or in 4:5 at 1080 x 1350, at 30 fps.
- No import from TikTok, Instagram, Vimeo or Drive links: the source is a video you own, as a file in MP4, MOV or WebM, or as the link of your YouTube upload.
- No virality scores: the AI selects complete, quotable passages, and you decide what to keep.

shortshort is built and run by Arsène Huot, an independent developer in France. There is no team, no funding round and no outside agency: the same person writes the code, answers the support mail and set the prices on this page. How it works, in three sentences
The transcript is produced word by word, then read as text: the AI looks for passages that stand on their own and end where a sentence ends, which is why a short can run up to 25% shorter or longer than the length asked for.
Each passage is reframed to 9:16 by tracking the face on screen, with one zoom level per shot and brief push-ins on emphasized words, all within x1.0 to x1.6; slides, screens and wide shots are detected and kept whole rather than cropped.
Nothing is rendered until asked: every proposal is an edit whose clips and their bounds, title, description, caption words and caption style can be changed first; the AI analysis, the editor and the MP4 export need a free account.
