One upload takes an MP4, MOV or WebM of up to 2 GB; the file size is what usually limits, and how many hours fit depends on the bitrate. A 2-hour recording that comes out heavier than that needs re-exporting on your side at a lower bitrate or a smaller resolution, not trimming.
The price does not depend on the clip count
A 90-minute file costs 90 credits whether you take 3 shorts or the Studio plan's ceiling of 20. A new account starts with 30 credits and no card.

How do I turn a long video into Shorts?
Upload the video to shortshort as an MP4, MOV or WebM of up to 2 GB, or paste the link of your own public or unlisted YouTube video, downloaded on our servers at up to 720p with its audio, then set how many shorts you want and a target length between 15 and 90 seconds. The AI listens to the whole video and picks passages that open and close on complete sentences; you check each one in the editor, then export it as a 1080 x 1920 MP4. A new account gets 30 free credits once, with no card, at 1 credit per minute of video, and the Free plan gives up to 3 shorts per video, with a watermark; exported shorts join the public community gallery by default.
How long can the source video be?
shortshort accepts one MP4, MOV or WebM file of up to 2 GB: the file size is what usually limits, and how many hours fit depends on the bitrate. When a long recording exceeds 2 GB, re-export it at a lower bitrate or resolution rather than trimming it.
How many shorts come out of one long video?
As many as your shortshort plan allows, each on a different passage: the Free plan stops at 3 shorts per video, Starter at 5, Creator at 10 and the Studio plan at 20. The shorts the AI proposes together never share a passage.
What does a two-hour video cost?
120 credits, because shortshort charges 1 credit per minute of source regardless of how many shorts you take. Starter includes 480 credits a month for 12 EUR, Creator 1,600 for 29 EUR and the Studio plan 6,000 for 79 EUR, all before VAT.
Do I have to keep the browser open while the shorts render?
No. With an account, generation and rendering run on our servers on every plan: once the upload finishes you can close the tab.
Is this a separate free tool or the full product?
It is the full shortshort studio, used with a free account, which comes with 30 credits and no card: the AI selects the passages, and you retouch each proposal in the editor before the MP4 export. On the Free plan the export carries a shortshort watermark and a video yields up to 3 shorts.
Can I keep the source video private?
Until you export a short, yes: the source video and your drafts stay private, and the working copy used for the analysis is removed as soon as the analysis finishes. An exported short joins the public community by default, and its page shows the original video and the transcript of the short. Any account can withdraw a published short at any time, and every paid plan adds an account setting that keeps all your shorts out of the community.
