VERTICAL VIDEO MAKER

Make vertical videos from a horizontal recording.

Vertical here means a 9:16 crop moved around the person on screen, applied to short passages of a horizontal video, not the whole file resized. That is the framing step of the shortshort studio, the same studio as on every other page, and each passage leaves it as its own 1080 x 1920 MP4.

The crop moves with the subject

Face and scene tracking place the 9:16 window on the face on screen and move it when the person moves; emphasis zooms are bounded between x1.0 and x1.6.

Wide shots are not forced into a strip

A slide, a screen or a wide scene is detected and kept full-frame inside the vertical canvas rather than cropped through its middle.

Every keyframe is yours

Each framing keyframe can be dragged or locked in the studio, and the manual editor plus MP4 export work without an account.

How to do it

Four steps. About two minutes of your time.

  1. 01Open the studio, with or without an account, and add a horizontal MP4, MOV or WebM of up to 3 hours
  2. 02Let the AI pick passages of 15 to 90 seconds, or set the bounds by hand in the free editor
  3. 03Review the crop keyframe by keyframe and lock any that should not move
  4. 04Render each clip as a 1080 x 1920 MP4

What this page does not promise

The whole video is not converted: the output is a set of separate 9:16 clips, each a short passage, not a vertical version of the full recording.

No other output ratio: 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 is the only export, with no 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 option.

Questions people ask

Can I convert my entire 40-minute video to vertical?

No. shortshort produces shorts of 15 to 90 seconds, each cropped to 9:16 around a chosen passage, and exports them as separate MP4s. It is not a batch converter for a full-length file.

What resolution is the vertical output?

1080 by 1920 pixels, H.264 in an MP4, at 30 frames per second. There is no 4K option and no higher frame rate, whatever the resolution of the source.

Does it work on a video where the person walks around?

Yes. Face tracking moves the crop as the person moves across the frame, and scene detection resets it when the recording cuts to a new shot; the emphasis zoom never goes under x1.0 or past x1.6. If the track drifts, the keyframe can be corrected or locked by hand.

Can I do the reframing myself without the AI?

Yes. The manual editor is free and does not need an account: set the clip bounds, place the keyframes, choose the zoom and the caption style, and export the MP4. The AI analysis, including the transcription that times the captions, is the part that needs an account and credits.

Is a square or 4:5 version available?

No. 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 is the single output format of the studio, whichever plan you are on.

Is this a separate vertical video tool?

No. It is the framing step of the shortshort studio, the same product as on every tools page here, reached from the search term people use for it.
