A clip is a quote, not a window of time
Each proposal is chosen to open at the start of a sentence and close at its end, allowed to drift 25% from the length you set: 22.5 to 37.5 seconds for a 30-second target.

What is AI clipping?
AI clipping is software that finds the passages of a long video worth a short clip, then cuts, frames and captions them. shortshort does it on videos you hold the rights to, proposing shorts that open and close on complete sentences, each exported as a vertical MP4. The word also names clipping campaigns, where a creator or a brand pays clippers to cut and post clips of its videos; shortshort lists no campaigns and pays no clippers.
What does the AI actually look at when it picks a clip?
The full transcript and the audio track together. It favours passages that begin and end on their own, which usually means an answer, a claim or an example, and steers away from cuts that start or stop mid-thought; the end of each short is then checked against the transcript. There is no popularity model behind the choice.
Can I change a clip the AI proposed?
Yes, most of it: move the start and end, fix the caption words, switch the caption style among Spotlight, Impact, Karaoke and Minimal, and rewrite the title. Framing and zooms are automatic. The short is rendered only after you are done.
How many clips can it make from one video?
Between 1 and 20, and the clips proposed together use distinct passages. The ceiling depends on the shortshort plan: 3 shorts per video on the Free plan, 5 on Starter, 10 on Creator and 20 on the Studio plan.
Does the AI need an account?
Yes. The analysis runs on an account, and a new one comes with 30 credits, enough for a video of up to 30 minutes, with no card asked. The editor, where you retouch what the AI proposes, and the MP4 export run on that same free account.
Is there a free AI clip generator?
shortshort has a Free plan. A new account gets 30 credits once, 30 minutes of video at 1 credit per minute, with no card, and they are not renewed each month. On the Free plan a video yields up to 3 shorts, every export carries a shortshort watermark, and exported shorts join the public community gallery by default. Starter, at 12 EUR a month before VAT, removes the watermark and allows 5 shorts per video.
Is the same AI used on every tool page of this site?
Yes. Every page under /tools describes the same shortshort studio; the pages differ by the kind of video and the question they answer, not by the software behind them.
Does it clean the audio or remove filler words?
No. The audio is left as recorded, and silences and filler words stay in the clip unless you trim the bounds yourself.
