The frame follows the face on screen
Face tracking keeps the 9:16 crop on the face on screen and moves it as that person moves; when the recording cuts to another shot, scene detection resets the crop, and a wide shot is kept full-frame.

How to do it

What this page does not promise
What the search term usually implies, and the studio does not do.
Audio-only episodes are not accepted: shortshort needs a video file, so an audio podcast has to be exported with a static image or waveform first.
No music bed, no automatic B-roll and no episode artwork added: the clip shows what the camera recorded.
No promise about who is in the crop: it follows the face on screen, with no manual override.

Questions people ask
Does it work with a remote recording where the guest is in a separate window?
Yes, as long as it is one video file. The crop is placed on the face on screen and moves with it. There is no manual framing control, so if it lands elsewhere on that recording, pick another passage.
How long can an episode be?
As long as the file stays within 2 GB: the file size is what usually limits, and how many hours fit depends on the bitrate. An episode exported over 2 GB needs re-exporting at a lower bitrate or resolution, not trimming.
What if my podcast is audio only?
Make a video from it first: a still image or a waveform over the audio, exported as MP4. The transcription, the clip selection and the word-timed captions work identically on that file.
What caption style suits a podcast?
Spotlight is the default: uppercase words with the one being spoken highlighted in turn. Karaoke, Impact and Minimal complete the four styles, and any of them can be swapped in per video.
Do listeners see the whole episode when a clip is published?
If the clip stays in the community, where exported shorts go by default, yes: the clip's page shows the short, the full source video and the transcript of the clip, and the page stays out of search results unless shortshort has confirmed the rights to the source video. Any account can withdraw a clip at any time, and any paid plan can keep all your clips out of the community.
Can I use these clips as Spotify Clips?
Yes, if each clip fits Spotify's rules: Spotify for Creators takes one Clip per episode, 15 to 90 seconds long, as an MP4 or MOV of up to 1 GB with audio, and recommends vertical video. A shortshort export is a vertical MP4 well under that size, but a short lands within 25% of its target, so set a target between 20 and 70 seconds to keep it between 15 and 87.5 seconds. Widening the bounds in the editor can take a short up to 112.5 seconds, so check the length before you upload. shortshort does not upload to Spotify: download the MP4 and add it to the episode in Spotify for Creators.
